London Series II

These paintings were made from photographs that I shot from boat trips from Charing Cross to the Thames Barrier. I took many photographs sides  What interested me was the relationship between older buildings and the construction of the new apartment blocks.
The tension between the old and new, and the gentrification process was visually exciting.
The historical significance of the early warehouses and their construction provided a strong horizontal composition that would later become the format for ‘London Bridge’, ‘Oliver’s Wharf’ and ‘Metropolitan Wharf’. See ‘London’s Lost Riverscape – a photographic Panorama’ Chris Ellmerson and Alex Werner 1988.
