Travel Series I

Most of the paintings in this series were made from photos taken during visits other countries.

Small, random, apparently undistinquished elements when viewed months/years later suggest themselves as possibilities for paintings.
‘The Rotten Post’ Stockholm painting was based on an perished pier post. On closer examination It later reminded me of a high rise building in Canary Wharf in London. The fact that the centre of the post had rotted out connected to the banking melt down in 2006.

The Generator tower in Jutland was part of a series of photos of these towers across Jutland Denmark. These towers were reminiscent of medieval castles, fortifications. I liked the exterior of these Gothic type buildings and was surprised to be told that they housed electrical generators. These towers are now being demolished, as part of a redevelopment.

Most of the paintings in this series are not based on the picturesque, but more on the everyday , banal views that at the time don’t present themselves as possibilities for paintings.
